A ball transfer unit is a mechanical component used in material handling applications that enables flexible, multi-directional movement. It can be classified in various ways, categorized across multiple dimensions such as material composition, load-bearing capacity, mounting method, and specific design features. Based on material, units are primarily divided into metal and plastic types; metal units are suitable for heavy loads or environments requiring high wear resistance, while plastic units are lightweight and corrosion-resistant, making them ideal for settings with strict cleanliness requirements. Specific metal materials include carbon steel (e.g., SPCC, Q235), stainless steel (e.g., SUS304, SUS440C), and alloy steel (e.g., SUJ2, S45C, SCM415); plastic materials include nylon and POM. Surface treatment options-such as zinc plating, nickel plating, blackening, anodizing, chrome plating, and QPQ treatment-are applied to meet the corrosion resistance and wear resistance demands of diverse operating environments.

 

Based on load-bearing capacity, units can be classified into light-duty (under 1 ton), medium-duty (1–5 tons), and heavy-duty (over 5 tons) types. Mounting methods are diverse, encompassing flange-type, press-fit, screw-mount, screw-cut, cylindrical, adhesive-mount, and air-float types. Design features vary to accommodate different installation and operational requirements, including standard, quick-install, hex-bolt, nut-fixed, and debris-discharge hole configurations. Structurally, heavy-duty ball transfer units are typically manufactured using high-strength materials and feature integrated lubrication systems and compact designs.
